Celebrating Friendship week at St Patrick's

Image
Dear Parents and Guardians,   Last week 13th—17th November 2023 as a whole school, we have been focusing on Anti-bullying and Friendship. We are thrilled to share the incredible highlights of the week. The children have been discussing and exploring this year’s focus – "Make a noise about bullying" and how to "be a good friend".   Our children have been actively engaged in discussions about bullying, learning essential skills such as how to support each other, stand up against bullying, report incidents, and identify the resources available within our school for help and guidance. It's heart-warming to see our students embrace the principles of empathy and inclusion and promote kindness throughout our school community.   Throughout the week, the school has been adorned with vibrant posters and artwork created by our talented students. Their creativity knows no bounds, and these visual representations beautifully capture the essence of friendship, support, an

Year 1 - Climate Change

Image
This term in YEAR 1 we have been reading the book called Greta and the Giants written by Zoe Tucker. You can watch the story with your child, read by the author on You tube. Link below:   YEAR 1 learnt about the impact of climate change and things we can do to help protect the planet. This week they made and designed placards to stand up for what we believe in, and to show we care about the planet, just like Greta Thunberg.   It was amazing to witness the enthusiasm and dedication your children have displayed throughout this journey. Their engagement with this important topic not only demonstrates their understanding of the world around them but also highlights their capacity to be thoughtful and proactive. Parents, you can truly be proud of the remarkable efforts and achievements of Year 1. Together, we are fostering a generation that not only learns about the challenges our planet faces but actively seeks solutions and takes a stand for positive change.   Greta and th

Capital Kids Cricket

William Greaves Trophy – Mixed Primary School Competition: Capital Kids Cricket has established itself as a catalyst for positive change within schools, and St. Patrick's is proud to have developed club links with this influential charity. Capital Kids Cricket goes beyond the school environment, offering pathways into the world of cricket through their clubs designed specifically for young people. Notably, the  children of St. Patrick's have received invitations to two distinct clubs—one catering to a mixed audience and the other exclusively for girls. This inclusive approach   underscores the organisation's commitment to diversity and ensures that cricket is a sport for everyone. The anticipation is building at St. Patrick's as Capital Kids have invited us to take part in the William Greaves Trophy- Mixed Primary Cricket Competition in  January, we will be putting in some training for that! Furthermore, we eagerly look forward to six weeks of cricket coaching from Ca

For Anti-bullying/Friendship week Year 4 pictured, made friendship bracelets in class for each other . This week 13th—17th November 2023 as a whole school, we have been  focusing on Anti-bullying and Friendship . The children have been  discussing and exploring this year’s focus – Make a noise about bullying and how to be a good friend.  As well as looking at how well we do this in our offline lives, at St Patrick’s we have also been discussing our behaviours in the online world also. We all need to think about how our everyday words and actions, both online and offline, affect others. Please ask your child what they have been learning!   Remember one kind word can make a world of difference!   “Whatever you do for others, you do for me.” -- Jesus   “Remember, the greatest gift is not found in a store nor under a tree, but in the hearts of true friends.” -- Cindy Lew

Leyton Orient - Show Racism a Red Card

Image
On a dreary, wet Wednesday, our Year 6 children embarked on a journey that would defy the gloomiest of days. Undeterred by the downpours, their spirits soared as they departed school on their adventure. November the 8th, 2023 marked a day of enlightenment and inspiration as our children delved into the SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD programme at Leyton Orient Football Club. The agenda unfolded with an immersive workshop unravelling the intricacies of racism, a compelling presentation on discrimination, and an exciting tour of the Leyton Orient Football Club. The day culminated in a surprise appearance by Leyton Orient footballers in a riveting Q and A panel, leaving our children enlightened and impassioned. To top off a great day, we later learned that St Patrick's, received praise from the organisers, Leyton Orient Trust, who deemed the Year 6 children to be "AMAZING!" SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD harnesses the power of football in the battle against discrimination, using

Swimming Festival

Image
Eight children ended the first week back at school with an aquatic adventure. The intrepid, but not yet proficient swimmers enbraced the challeges set for them by WFSSN at the Year 5/6 Water Confidence Festival. As they delved into the realm of water confidence, the children took part in activities and races, with their 'noodles' (floats) supporting their aquatic dreams. They swam on their fronts and backs, every stroke a testament to their growing confidence in the water.  The afternoon's excitement reached it's crescendo when they and  other children from the across the borough united and embarked on a 'beat the clock- treasure hunt'.  Within the walls of Leytonstone Swimming Pool the sound of fun and laughter echoed through the air. They left the pool at the end of the day with the invaluable treasure of new friendships and newfound water confidence.

Multi-sports Festival

Image
Beneath the golden hue of autumn's waning sun, ten fortunate children set out for an exciting afternoon of sports at the Year 5/6 WFSSN multi- sports festival. They played football, squash and volleyball, danced and hula hooped their way through an enchanting afternoon whilst wholeheartedly, embodying the school games values of respect, self- belief and determination.  Alongside children from the other schools in attendance, they forged bonds of camaraderie, making it a truly memorable sporting experience. Heledana  summed it up with glee, "I love PE, and I have been so excited about attending. This afternoon was amazing. I had so much fun. My favourite activities were dance and squash. Today has been like a Halloween celebration of sports. I am so lucky that I had the chance to go."
