Year 2 - Great Fire of London

On Thursday 14th March, the Year 2 children had a whole day Great Fire of London workshop. During the morning, the children used practical activities and drama to find out what it was like living through the Great Fire. They explored many of the jobs of the people in that time, including: a barber surgeon, apothecary, leather worker, chandler, perfumer, baker, metal worker, seamstress and weaver. They also visited a Stuart schoolhouse to make ink and learn how to write with quill pens!  In the afternoon, the children began an archaeological investigation. They used ‘dig’ boxes to search the remains of the fire for artefacts that would help them to find out more about a specific job or family that may have been living in London in 1666.

In order for this workshop and its many activities to run so smoothly, we needed a lot of extra hands and support. So, we want to thank the many parent volunteers and staff for travelling back in time with us and training up all the keen apprentices in the trades of that time – it would not have been possible without them.
