World Book Day

BOOK WEEK: Last week we celebrated Book Week in style with a range of activities designed to promote books and get children excited about reading.

On Monday, there was a Giant Book Swap in the hall, where pupils exchanged books they are no longer reading for a book from another child. Many children took part. Thank you to parents and children who brought in books to swap! Our homework competition winners wrote fantastic book reviews or designed wonderful book character posters to recommend books to others. The winners received a £5 Book Voucher to spend at the school Book Fair.

On Thursday, we celebrated World Book Day by coming to school dressed in pyjamas to ‘Get cosy with a book!’ We had a special assembly where the winners of the homework competition were presented with their prizes and we heard from some famous authors. To see more please visit Families - World Book Day.The majority of our older children went to read a book a buddy in a younger class. It was a joy to watch our KS2 children taking responsibility for reading to a younger pupil and the excitement of younger pupils to spend time reading with an older friend!

On Friday, we finished our book week by listening to stories read by parents and staff in other languages. Thank you so much to the parents who volunteered to come in and read a story in their home language, we appreciate your support and the richness of diversity you brought to Book Week!

Of course all children received their World Book Day token. If you have not already spent yours, please go along to a bookshop and trade it in for a FREE book (from the World Book Day selection) or use it to get £1 off a book of your choice.  In the meantime, KEEP READING!!!
