St Patrick's Netball Team

In a outstanding display of skill, resilience, and sportsmanship, St Patrick's Year 5/6 Netball Team emerged victorious in the Borough Final on Wednesday 6th March. The goal was clear: to defend their title as Borough Champions and secure a coveted spot in the London Youth Games. Our team motto was 'in it to win it.'" Little did the children know their journey to triumph would be laced with unexpected challenges, making their achievement all the more remarkable.

The path to victory began on February 8th, where a highly competitive, netball competition unfolded in two sessions. St Patrick's made it to the finals, earning their spot as the champions of the morning session. The original plan, as communicated by the School Games Organiser, was for the two winning teams to play in the Borough final. However, an unforeseen twist awaited us!

To our surprise, the School Games Organiser invited five teams from the morning session to the finals, citing the reason was to ‘find the very best’ due to the London Youth Games being fiercely competitive. This unexpected development did not faze the St Patrick's netball team; instead, it fuelled our determination to prove our calibre on the court. Remaining calm and confident, the team faced their opponents - they  were PREPARED and READY!!!!! The Organiser's decision to expand the final into a full-blown competition only amplified the challenge and St Patrick's embraced it wholeheartedly.

As the games unfolded, St Patrick's showcased unparalleled dominance, outplaying each opponent with flair and finesse. The first match against Sybourn saw an astounding 8-0 victory, setting the tone for a series of triumphs: 9-0 against Mayville, 4-0 against St Saviours, 4-1 against Roger Ascham, and a final 2-0 against South Grove. Notably, the only goal conceded was due to an illegal throw, highlighting St Patrick's commitment to fair play and sportsmanship. Their hard work and dedication paid off in splendid fashion, with the team receiving well deserved praise for their exceptional play and thoroughly earned gold medals.

St Patrick's netball team, Otaoghene, Samara, Esther, Phoebe, Jacob, Jesururu, Brayan and Valentina delivered a dazzling performance. Their triumph sends a resounding message: hard work, teamwork, determination, and self-belief can turn dreams into reality. In the face of unexpected challenges, St Patrick's rose to the occasion, proving that resilience and commitment are the keys to success.

We extend a special thanks to Mr McFarlane, a committed Friend of St Patrick's, for volunteering his time to help train the team and for his unwavering support on the day. This is a prime example of the unity within our school community and what we can achieve when we work together. As a school we are incredibly proud that we have once again secured the title of Borough Netball Champions .We now look forward with great anticipation as St Patrick's prepares to represent Waltham Forest in the prestigious London Youth Games – a testament to our school's commitment to excellence, teamwork and sportsmanship.

It is needless to say that without our outstanding PE teacher Ms Le Blond these champions and many other children would not have been able to have such amazing opportunities to develop, shine and firmly place the name of St Patrick’s sports talents and sportsmanship on the borough and London map. We wholeheartedly thank Ms Le Blond for her unfailing energy, inspiration and dedication to getting the best from our children.
