Girl's Football Tournament

Our Journey: We are thrilled to share the exhilarating journey of our Year 5 and 6 girls’ football team in our first tournament of the academic year. This exciting competition, hosted by Leyton Orient Trust in association with Premier League Kicks, brought together schools from Waltham Forest and neighbouring boroughs. Our young athletes embarked on this journey as a united team, eager to showcase their skills and spirit. To reach the semi-finals, they faced a nail-biting match that culminated in a heart-pounding penalty shootout. The penalty shootout- best-of-three, had everyone on edge!

Cool-Headed Heroes: The first penalty was taken and scored by Otaoghene, and was matched by our resilient opponents. The pressure then fell upon Sophie.S, who displayed 'nerves of steel' to secure the second goal. As tensions mounted, it was our goalkeeper, the ultra-calm and 'cool-as-a-cucumber' Phoebe who rose to the occasion, saving the second attempt from our opponents.

Glory in the Shootout: With the score at 2-1 in favour of our St. Patrick’s team, Esther faced the pressure but displayed remarkable composure to score the next penalty.  At 3-1, our opponents had no reason to take another shot, as our girls proudly advanced to the finals.

A Proud Runner-Up Finish: In the final match, our team faced an established girls’ team, and they gave it their all. Despite a valiant effort, they emerged as runners-up on this occasion. We couldn’t be prouder of our girls for their massive achievement and the fantastic start to the new academic year.

Commitment Beyond Compare: It is important to acknowledge the remarkable commitment of these girls who dedicated themselves to after-school 'competition club' sessions on Tuesdays in the weeks leading up to the tournament. They were selected from a group of twenty-plus girls who consistently put in time and effort every week. This exemplifies the spirit of dedication that runs through our children.

A Grateful Thank You: We owe a huge thank you to our Year 5/6 sports leaders who generously assisted during training sessions and of course, a valued friend of St Patrick's, Winston, who played a significant role in the success of our girls. Gratitude to Miss George and Miss Farhana for their guidance and support during the tournament.

Inspiring Hope and Pride: This journey is a celebration of effort, commitment, and the support system of our school and the wider school community. Participation and dedication are victories in themselves. Each girl who put in the effort, week after week, and each boy who turned out to assist should feel proud of themselves.  Our journey is just beginning, and there’s much more to achieve. What an incredible start to the year.... WELL DONE GIRLS!!!!!!
